When doing mass corporate layoffs, what do you say to the person that's destined to become the owner of the number one Avon Mega Store in the nation?
Soon after being laid off in 2003, Elizabeth Demas started her business with Avon. In the first 6 months she reached sales of over $10,000, built a team of over 30 representatives, won a trip to Cancun and landed on the front cover of Avon's then magazine for representatives, Avon Dreams.
Currently, Elizabeth sells above Avon's top sales level, owns 2 Licensed Avon Beauty Centers in the Kansas City metro, Overland Park and Zona Rosa. The Overland Park store holds the distinction of selling the most Avon out of any one location in the nation. Elizabeth's team now has nearly 100 team members from several states.
Elizabeth has received several awards, including 2008 Existing Business of the Year from the Johnson County Small Business Development Center and 2010 national award of Woman of Enterprise from Avon Corporate. She has been highlighted in Beauty Magazine, twice in the Kansas City Star and featured on KMBC Channel 9 for top sales and owning a store.
Elizabeth and her husband George have been on so many trips: Cancun, Cozumel, several times in the Bahamas, a 5 country European cruise, Hawaii, Key West, Dominican Republic, Canada and on the mainland to cities such as LA, New York, Nashville, Las Vegas and San Diego. Her husband and a son even took a free trip to Disney world in the Spring of 2014!
Elizabeth is thankful not only for the income from owning her own business, but also the flexibility it affords her. Besides being married, Elizabeth is the proud mother of 3 boys ages 18, 15 and 6. She is soon to be the adoptive mother of a 16 month old baby girl with special needs. As she has often said, the baby has so many appointments, if she didn't own her own business - she would have been fired by now! She remembers the misery of working 9-5, constantly in fear of being caught up in the next round of layoffs. She prefers being master of her own destiny.
