1o years ago I first published www.kcmegastore.com to help promote my Avon Mega Store. Since my bachelors degree included a fair number of courses in web design – I made it myself! There wasn’t much to say for it, but it did the job. The site was mostly text with a few pictures here and there.
Letters from Avon Legal
Well, those “few pictures here and there” were apparently against the rules back then! I received several letters from Avon Corporate’s Legal department – telling me to cease and desist. I did not have the rights to the pictures and could not use them! I tried to bargain. I tried several workarounds. In the end, I took down all pictures from my site and kept it text only.
First Major Overhaul
A few years later I decided I wanted to do more with my website. I hired a lady to create a site for me in WordPress – meant for bloggers. I still stuck mostly with text. You can see this reflected in my very first post. Isn’t it adorable in its plainness?
The World Changed Around Me
Now, while I stayed scared of Avon’s Legal Department – they stopped paying attention! The world changed and so did they! Avon now not only allows you to use their images – they help their reps get it out there with fancy emails, professional social media posts pre-made just for reps! Avon products are plastered all over social media and Avon representative website’s everywhere. In fact, this year’s Avon Woman of Enterprise earned the honor, in part, due to how successful she has been selling and recruiting online through her website – chock full of pictures of Avon products!!!
Starting Over From Scratch
Determined to bring my website up to date with the times, I’ve have put a great deal of effort into updating my online skills these last 5 months. Seriously, it’s been 15 years since I finished my bachelors degree. A few things have changed online since then. I took a great 5 week course in social media called Social Brilliance Impact. I enjoyed the class so much, I even hired one of the moderators, Mel DePaoli, as a online brand consultant to help with the remaking of this website. With the help of my trusty web master, Melanie Johnson, I rebuilt every last nook and cranny of this baby. This picture to the left was at the point the rubber hit the road – after months and months of planning – the actual creating was able to start!
645 edits over 4 days
So, after a very intense Memorial Day weekend (see # of edits above) – my website is now fun, colorful – and way more user friendly. People can shop online, read up on my two store locations. They can even see a list of Avon Stores nationwide and find one close to them (hopefully).
For people interested in joining Avon, I really ramped up my help for them – even giving choices for what team to join! And, once they sign up, they have access to the most complete support for new representatives I know of out there. The page that’s still a work in progress is where I detail out resources for existing representatives. That’s one list that could grow forever!
Coming soon to a blog near you!
The page that really will come to life over the summer of 2015 is Build Your Mega Business. Over time, this collection of business-related blogs will become a comprehensive encyclopedia for starting, running and growing an Avon Mega Business. Between my MBA, 12 years with Avon and all the continuing education I put myself through – there’s a lot to talk about! It’s going to take awhile to get it all out there. While all topics are sorted on that page, all blogs, of all types can be found in the Mega Blog.
The Personal Side of Business
I have cleaned up a few pages about my stores and myself and how to make contact. Much of the information that needs to be added is historical. That will all roll out over the summer of 2015. I guess I’ll be a blogging master by the time this is all said and done. I’d better be!
Thank you everyone who has been with me on this journey – with my stores, on my team or just as a friend. To follow my blog as it grows, sign up below to receive updates. I’d love to have you along for the ride!
